President of India is referred to as the first citizen of India. The Indian President is elected by an electoral college composed of the elected members of the Parliament, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu has been announced as the new President of India on 21 July 2022. Article 52 of the Indian Constitution states that there shall be a President of India. The President is the nominal head of government, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister (Council of Ministers). In India, the President is the head of state but does not exercise executive powers. All executive action is taken in the name of the President of India. Draupadi Murmu has become the new President of India after the announcement of the results of the presidential election on 21 July 2022 after the completion of the term of Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Draupadi Murmu is the second woman President of India and the first tribal woman President of India. Draupadi Murmu is the 15th President of India after Shri Ramnath Kovind. A candidate of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the 64-year-old former teacher hails from the state of Odisha (Orissa) and has served as the state’s governor.
