Betting on numbers in a famous gambling game, we have a choice of two sets of six-digit numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 12, 8, 32, 6, 28, 10. the question is which one should we choose to increase the chances of winning? If you think about it carefully, the answer seems obvious.
It doesn't matter which set we choose, because according to probability theory, the chance of their appearance in the draw is the same. However, as scientists proved at the end of the twentieth century, people often reject the first set as implausible. After all, they have never witnessed a drawing in which a series of six consecutive numbers fell out. So mathematics and logic are one thing, and the human mind is another. According to the interpretation of these famous scientists in everyday life, we simply use the so-called heuristic of thinking, i.e. a simplified way of inference. As you can see, it is often unreliable.
Two systems in our head.
The word "heuristic" itself comes from the Greek eurisko and is associated with the famous cry of Eureka.
