Top 10 Best Beer gardens in Dublin City

The first summer in Ireland since the lifting of COVID19 restrictions is set to see a large portion of the population flocking to pubs and restaurants for some much needed socialisation and leisure time. During the pandemic, the necessity of “outdoor” dining and drinking caused expanded outdoor areas to become commonplace. It was during this period that many bars and restaurants saw the revenue potential of providing new and improved outdoor areas for their customers in future "post-covid" times.

Many outdoor spaces were transformed into lavish beer gardens last year as outdoor dining became the norm for the majority of the summer months. Old staples were given a facelift and transformed into stunning spaces.

We've compiled a list that showcases some of the best beer gardens in Dublin to help you to find the perfect spot to sip a cold one while taking in the sun (we hope!). Just to note, our list is in no particular order, so be sure to visit them all..!

1. The Church Café Bar

Located in the centre of Dublin City, the Church Bar is an oasis in the midst of the Dublin city. Is there anything better than an outing to a large beer garden on a hot day? (Or, if you're a Dubliner and live in the city, any day that isn't raining..!). The Church Bar offer's a vast variety of delicious drinks and food options, catering to parties, celebrations, and corporate events of all sizes. To help you unwind after a long day at work, The Church has an extensive drinks menu that includes many of your favourite wines, gins, whiskey, cocktails and more.

 2. The Yacht

An absolute gem of a pub located in Clontarf, The Yacht Bar has a fantastic outdoor area that has recently been expanded to include a large beer garden that showcases a wide and diverse menu for food and drinks. The outdoor area also provides all of the space that larger groups could possibly require when deciding on a venue to book. The Yacht is definitely one of our favourite spots to head after work on a nice sunny day.

3. The Sandyford House

A sophisticated beer garden with a capacity of 80 people, Sandyford house's outdoor area is a sun trap throughout the summer. In order to meet increasing demand, they have also developed a second outdoor area that can seat up to 35 people. The Sandyford House also provides mouth-watering lunch and dinner menus, and even has a special kids menu for families looking to spend a day out together.

4. The Horse Show House Pub

A vibrant and colourful beer garden located in Ballsbridge, Horseshow house is ideal for anyone looking for festival vibes on a sunny day. Last year, they made some renovations to the garden to prepare it for outside drinking and dining. The garden is now mostly covered thanks to the addition of a new retractable roof, so they can continue to comfortably serve their guests even when Dublin gets all four seasons in one day..!

5. The Parnell Heritage Pub & Grill

Perfect pints, exquisite lunches, and sophisticated afternoon teas, as well as the energy and excitement of sporting events on the big screen, can all be found at The Parnell Heritage. On their rooftop terrace, they host an "After Work BBQ" every Friday night. Three nights of the week they also feature live traditional music. The bar is also conveniently located on near to O’Connell street, which offers visitors many different bus routes and transport options when trying to decide on where to bring your group or family.

6. The Living Room

The beer garden at The Living Room on Cathal Brugha Street, right off the top of O'Connell Street, is one of the most famous beer gardens in Dublin. It is renowned for being one of the best places in the city to watch sports on its enormous screens, and it is also a great place to enjoy food and drinks in the sun. Walk-ins are more than welcome, and online reservations are also available. Another fantastic aspect of this beer garden is the atmosphere that’s found within it. The outdoor area serves as a melting pot for all nationalities and cultures, and you’ll always find someone to strike up a conversation with while enjoying some of the best pints in Dublin.

7. The Porterhouse

The Porterhouse’s new outside heated beer garden is located in Adam Court laneway, Grafton Street, and has become a major attraction for the well-known and loved pub. This trendy new set-up is absolutely perfect for days when the weather isn’t holding up as nicely as we’d like it to. The location of the garden, just off one of Dublin’s busiest streets, ensures that there’s always a great vibe and many punters around the area. The Porterhouse is also home to many of its own refreshing IPA’s for those of us who like to try something a little bit different.

8. The Laurels

The Laurels in Clondalkin has long been known as one of the best spots to venture on a sunny day! The pub & restaurant is a breath of fresh air that sees a highly diverse clientele, including everyone from builders, bankers, accountants and large families. The Laurels has certainly cemented itself as a big part of Clondalkin's lively social scene and a visit is highly recommended. In between lockdowns, the finishing touches were done to their 200-seater beer garden, making it one of the biggest outdoor areas in Clondalkin. As a result, it’s the ideal location for larger events and gatherings.

9. Gibney’s of Malahide

There’s iconic pubs, and then there’s Gibney’s pub in Malahide. Gibney's has etched itself firmly into the culture of north county Dublin, with its gorgeous outdoor area and unrivalled atmosphere. A family run business from the very beginning, past visitors have included everyone from Bono and Colin Farrell, to members of Boyzone and The Script. After a day at Malahide Beach, Gibney’s is the ideal location to unwind and enjoy a few drinks, followed by some of the best live music on offer in north Dublin.

10. The Bernard Shaw

One of Ireland’s most popular pubs for the younger generation, The Bernard Shaw is open seven days a week and has a lovely outdoor area for gatherings on sunny days. There’s always creative events being hosted & the pub has made a name for itself as being the go-to spot for Ireland’s trendy and youthful crowd. The pub covers a lot of ground musically. DJs and bands play anything from house to jazz to grime, roots reggae to disco, hip hop to rock. The “Eat-yard” located outside the pub is right beside the canal where you can enjoy your beer in a Glass dome. A beautiful spot and comes highly recommended.
