Paris is known as the "city of amour," and it is a stunning urban grid of patterned city streets where many of the best museums, parks, and restaurants can be found. There is no shortage of things to do in Paris, and the Catacombs should be on the list of attractions that every visitor should see. The Catacombs are steeped in tremendous history and full of fascinating and even eerie facts, just like most of the city. Therefore, the following are some eerie things you should watch out for if you are on the Catacombs Tours Paris:

As Art: Bones

As remains were collected from Paris cemeteries, the bones were placed in mounds and left in great disarray as they were transported into the Catacombs. The creepy art that can still be found in the Catacombs today was created in the quarries under the direction of Louis-Étienne Héricart de Thury.

If You Dare, Swim

In the beginning, the Catacombs beneath Paris were quarries where limestone was extracted centuries earlier. It's not a stretch to imagine that some of the tunnels were formerly filled with water, despite the fact that the municipal ossuary is currently housed in one of the tunnels.

Undercover Group Community

The Catacombs beneath the city are a favourite hangout for a group of adventurers and thrill-seekers known as the Cataphiles. These people are adventurers who explore the more than 170 kilometres of tunnels that extend from the Catacombs. They have decorated apartments with murals and graffiti or arrived to seek a tranquil location in the busy metropolis of Paris.

Art gallery in the shadows

However, there is additional art to be seen in the Catacombs. As bones were arranged in the Catacombs, they were fashioned into a variety of shapes, including hearts, crosses, a huge barrel of femurs, and heads. One illustration is Décure's sculptures.

Relocated in the Dark

It took more than 12 years to finish the difficult operation of transporting the bones from the Paris cemetery into the Catacombs. Les Innocents, whose remains spilt out when a wall collapsed during a prolonged spring of rain, was the first cemetery to be cleared. To temper protests from the Church and the citizens of Paris, the bodies were moved into the shadows.
