KDM Shopfitting

KDM Shopfitting is one of the largest fit out contractors in the UK. The company based in Dalgety Bay, Fife is a tribute to the hard work and strong business skills of founders Keith MacInnes and Iain Jones.

They’ve been around since 1998 and have a solid track record for delivering some of the UK’s best retail and commercial fit outs. They also provide a wide range of other services such as design and build, manufacturing, and double glazing solutions.

Their head office boasts a 15,000 sq foot manufacturing complex that’s home to their skilled craftsmen and a state of the art CNC machine. In fact, they’re one of the few manufacturers to have a dedicated CNC department.

They were reliant on their old, on-premises, Exchange Email Server which over time started to cause them problems. As a result, they opted for the newest and most modern Microsoft Office 365 solution that would allow them to seamlessly integrate their email into their business processes. The main advantage was that they were able to synchronise their emails across multiple devices, including a mobile phone. Moreover, they were able to save money in the process because they no longer had to pay for their own local server infrastructure.

Havelock Europa

Havelock Europa is a shop fitter Scotland company that specialises in fitting out shops. Its Kirkcaldy based headquarters employs 320 people. They have worked on projects such as Primark and Holland & Barrett.

Havelock has a strong reputation for quality work and a high level of customer service. They also have a team of experts who can provide everything from designing, planning and project management to fitting and construction.

The company has a long-term growth plan and aims to make a significant contribution to Fife's economy. Shop fittings Scotland have secured additional debt facilities of PS3m over six years and an extension of existing debt facilities of PS5 million for two years.

It also announced the appointment of Ciaran Kennedy as Group Finance Director. He joins from Kier Group, where he was Operations Director for their Scottish utilities business. He has 17 years of experience in building materials and has previously worked for Ennstone.

A major review of the business is due to close on December 7. Havelock have warned that 25 jobs in their manufacturing division and 36 in their projects division will be lost as part of the cost saving process.

Havelock's restructure has been designed to save it PS3.75m this year and PS2m next. It will see a shift of the firm's production from its Nottingham factory to the Dalgety Bay site.

Hew Balfour, chief executive, has described the restructure as "the rebirth of Havelock Europa". He said: “The UK retail market has been very difficult for four years and there is an opportunity to restructure the business. This will allow us to reduce costs and create a more efficient and profitable business.

This will also ensure we continue to be able to deliver the high standards we have come to expect from Havelock."

The company had warned in August that the move to Kirkcaldy was likely to result in job cuts and said they were still looking for a new chief executive. Eric Prescott, who had been with the firm for four and a half years, had already stepped down last month.
