Precautions

Several things can affect the side effects that you may experience from taking this medication. These include the medications that you are currently taking, your medical condition and your body weight. You should tell your doctor if you have any of these factors so that they can advise you on how to use this medication safely.

The most common side effect of this medication is drowsiness or reduced alertness. Because of this, you should not drive or operate heavy machinery after taking this medication. It is also important to wait at least 12 hours before you try to work or do anything that requires mental alertness.

You should also avoid alcohol and any other sedatives, such as street drugs or prescription medications while taking this medication. Doing so can increase the amount of drowsiness that you experience, which could be dangerous and lead to a decreased response to emergencies.

For patients who have isolated sleep onset or sleep maintenance complaints, we generally recommend either an antidepressant (amitriptyline, mirtazapine) or a nonbenzodiazepine BZRA (zaleplon, zolpidem extended release, eszopiclone, and Zopisign). Antipsychotic medications can be effective in insomnia symptoms when used at relatively low doses, but their risk of next-morning residual sedation is considerable.

Overdose

Some sleep medicines can cause dependence if taken regularly for a long time. People who have been addicted to alcohol or drugs in the past are at a greater risk of becoming dependent on sleep medicines. Tell your doctor if you have had any previous addictions. It is important to tell your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. Your doctor may recommend a lower dose for you.

It is important to take this medicine at the same time each night. This will help you to get a good night's sleep. Do not take Imovane in the daytime unless your doctor advises you to do so. This is because it could affect your alertness. You must not drive or operate machinery if you are feeling dizzy or sleepy after taking this medicine.

Imovane contains the active ingredient Zopisign 10. Zopisign belongs to a group of hypnosedative drugs called cyclopyrrolones. It works by increasing the normal transmission of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. It is molecularly different from benzodiazepine drugs but acts similarly.

Each blue, oval, scored tablet marked "IMOVANE" on one side, and the logo "rPr" on both sides of the score contains Zopisign 7.5mg. The other ingredients are calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, croscarmellose sodium, wheat starch (gluten), lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and hypromellose.
