While the world is still practicing social distancing, the companies are conducting business meetings on video conferencing apps like Google Meet. Users can easily access Google Meet on their desktops and mobile devices. So, here is how to do that.

Create a Meeting on Your Computer

To start using Google Meet, first, you need to have a Google account. In case you have one already, log in to Google Meet using that Google account of yours. Before moving ahead with creating a meeting, you should know that Google Meet has a 60-minute cap for video calls. That means your video call will end automatically after 60 minutes of starting it.

If you are hosting a meeting using your PC, then head to the Google search bar, and enter meet.google.com. On the screen that appears, click on the green button named “New Meeting.” You will now be presented between three options as follows: Get a meeting link to share, Start an instant meeting, and Schedule in Google Calendar. Select “Start an Instant Meeting,” and a screen will appear with the activated camera. Set it up as per your requirement and hit the “Join now” button. Now, click on the “Add Other Participants” button to allow others to join your meeting.

Alternatively, you can click on the option named “Schedule in Google Calendar” to schedule a meeting. Then open the “Schedule in Google Calendar” to add details for the conference. Once done, hit Schedule.

Join a Meeting on Your Computer

You can join a meeting using a code/link or even an invitation via email sent by the meeting host. All you need to do is navigate to the Google search bar on your PC and enter https://meet.google.com/ to open the Google Meet window. Enter the link or code in the tab for the same, or just click the link to join. Alternatively, if you have received an email invitation, open that email and click on the button named “Join a Meeting.” After this, Google will ask you to enter a code, enter the code to join. You will find this code in your invitation email.

Join or Create a Meeting With the Mobile App

Start by opening the Google Meet app and grant all the required permissions for the app to work. You will find a green-colored button named New Meeting, tap on it, and select one of three options as mentioned above.

Tapping on the option named “Start New Meeting” will open the conference window with the “Share Invites” button towards the bottom of the screen. Tap on it to start inviting people via social apps or email. Don’t forget that you remain a part of the meeting even when you leave the conference window to use other apps. If you want to leave the meeting, you will have to swipe down the notification bar to tap on the option named “Leave the Meeting.”

In case you have received a link or a code, enter it in the “Join with a Code” bar next to the “Start New Meeting” option. Alternatively, if you have received a Gmail invitation, then there is no need to download the Google Meet on your mobile. Simply open the Gmail invitation, tap on the Meet button, and you are all set to join the meeting. Before that, Google will ask you for a code, which is mentioned in your invitation.

Remove the Meet Button in Gmail

Get rid of that flashing Meet button by following the steps below:

Step 1. Start by opening the Gmail app on your phone.

Step 2. Tap the triple-dot icon at the top-left corner.

Step 3. Scroll down to tap on the Settings options.

Step 4. Tap on the name of your account.

Step 5. Scroll down to tap on the section named Meet.

Step 6. Deselect the option named “Show the Meet Tab for Video calling.”

The process to do so is slightly different for PC. Here is how:

Step 1. Start by opening your Gmail account on your PC.

Step 2. Click the Settings option at the top-right corner.

Step 3. Click on the option named “See All Settings.”

Step 4. Now select the last option, which is Chat and Meet.

Step 5. Here, checkmark the Hide the Meet section.
