It is one of the busiest airports in the country and serves as a hub for several airlines, including Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways.

The airport is named after John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States,Brussels Airlines JFK Terminal who was assassinated in 1963. It was originally called Idlewild Airport and was renamed in 1963, shortly after Kennedy's death.
